Violence against Indigenous women and girls is significantly higher than any other population in America and Canada. Women and girls go missing and/or are murdered with little response from the police and media. This campaign aims to bring more awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) movement using related symbolism and hashtags.
Dresses are used to signify each woman and girl who is missing or was murdered, showing that no age is exempt. Red is worn on May 5th for the official MMIWG day and carries significance to the movement. A hand-drawn and multimedia approach is used because of the ugliness and messiness of the issue. It also adds a juvenile touch to represent the children who are harmed.
